Pongal (kara pongal,Venpongal)with Pachi pulusu

Hi every one,Today I tried pongal. we had it with pachi pulusu, u guys try it and enjoy.


1 cup Rice
3/4cup Moongdal
5cups of water
1/2tsp mustard seeds
2tsp cummin seeds
1/2 tsp Black pepper powder
ginger 1 inch(chopped)
curry leaves
salt to taste
3 spoons ghee
cashews 1 tbs
Hing 1/4tsp
red chilles 2

Method of preparation:

Wash the Rice&Moong dal add water and salt and pressure cook up to 4whistles,once the rice is ready mix it and keep aside. Now heat a pan add ghee and put the mustard seeds,cummin seeds,cashews,red chillies,ginger,black pepper powder,hing,curry leaves and roast them 2minutes in low flame.Remove from heat and add all ingredients it to the rice and mix it well. keep on the stove for 3minutes cover the lid.Once done serve hot with sambar or coconut chutney.we usually eat with pachi pulusu.

Pachi pulusu


Tamarind:Small lemon size
Water 250ml
green chilly:1(chilly powder little)
Onion :1
Coriander leaves


mustard seeds,cummin seeds,urad dal:1tsp
dry red chili:1
Curry leaves:5

Method of Preparation:

Soak the Tamarind with water after 10Min's take out the juice and add the glass of water(250ml).
To this Tamarind juice add the salt,green chilly ,sugar,chopped onions,chopped coriander and mix all this and put aside.

Heat a pan and do seasoning all the ingredients under seasoning. Add the seasoning in to the Tamarind juice mix and mix it well. Now the Pachi Pulusu is ready to Serve with Pongal or plain Rice with Mudda Pappu.
